That kind of love

Thursday night I was recording a demo spot while at my Nanny’s house (Nanny is my grandma. There was confusion in my earliest years at how to pronounce granny so she’s been Nanny for a few decades now.). I decided to record a section of scripture so I grabbed her Bible that was laying on the nightstand by her bed. As I thumbed through to find what I was looking for, the pages opened naturally to a spot with a placeholder…. When I saw what the placeholder was, my eyes filled with tears.
There pressed between the pages of her well worn Bible, amongst the greatest love story ever told was a piece of her own. Everyone who knew my Papa knew he was a great accountant. He loved a balanced ledger and ran their household frugally so that he could give his family a financial situation he was not afforded as a child. Not that he never had fun or splurged but those moments were thoughtfully considered. But there in the pages of my Nanny’s Bible was a real check written over 60 years ago to her in the amount of ONE THOUSAND KISSES. My papa was so taken with her that he threw all caution to the wind and extravagantly penned this amount of affection. She was more than worth it. I didn’t ask her how long it took for him to cash it but I’ve decided that I will settle for nothing less than one thousand kisses love in my own life and hope you consider the same. That one day the love story you lived (although not perfect) will be found and cherished and will form the generations of love stories after you.
